Maveerar of the Week: Major Sothiya


Born Maria Vasanthi Michael (Sept 20, 1963), she led the LTTE’s first women’s unit — breaking barriers in a male-dominated struggle. Joining in 1984, she fought fearlessly until her death in 1990 at just 26. Her courage sparked a legacy of female resistance that still burns today.
