The First Female Black Tiger of the Sea: Angayarkanni
Angayarkanni is a legend whose name echoes courage, strength, and unmatched determination. Known as the first female Black Tiger of the Sea, her incredible physical prowess and sportsmanship were evident in her remarkable feat of swimming 17 nautical miles (approximately 35 km) in just over 8 hours. This achievement alone was extraordinary, but her most daring mission cemented her place in history: as a single individual, she successfully attacked the Northern Headquarters ship of the Sri Lankan Navy, submerged 45 feet deep in Kankesanthurai Harbor.
Trained at the third camp of the Sea Tigers Womenās Brigade, Angayarkanni exhibited natural leadership and an unrelenting drive to excel.
To this day, Angayarkanni is remembered as a symbol of courage, resilience, and sacrificeāa legend who fought fearlessly for her people and her ideals.
