Brigadier Thurka was a remarkable leader and a symbol of courage. As a prominent female commander in the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), she led the all-female Sothiya Regiment, showing the strength and determination of women during the war between Sri Lanka and LTTE.
She broke barriers by taking on a leadership role in combat, inspiring many with her bravery and unwavering resolve. Her contributions to the LTTE’s efforts highlighted her strategic skill and fearless spirit. Those who followed her were inspired by her bravery and strategic brilliance, qualities that made her a cornerstone of the LTTE’s military efforts.
Tragically, her life was cut short on April 5, 2009, during the Battle of Aanandapuram. This pivotal clash claimed the lives of many LTTE leaders, and her loss was felt deeply by those who admired her leadership and vision.
