The LTTE calls on the United Nations to intervene to put an end to the carnage. At least 1,700 people have died in the past 48 hours. The situation worsens due to insufficient food and medication. The hospitals were handed over to the International Committee by the Red Cross in the hope that the Sri Lankan military's attacks would end.
