Sencholai Remembrance Day in France

Sencholai Remembrance Day in France is observed each year by Eelam Tamils around the world, especially around August 14, the anniversary of the 2006 Sencholai massacre in Mullaitivu, Tamileelam.

In France, the event is organised by French Tamil Women’s Organisation.

The commemorations often include:

• Cultural tributes — poetry, and speech by Tamil youth

• Public floral offerings — to honor the 53 schoolgirls and 3 teachers killed

• Speeches — highlighting the

events and the ongoing call for justice

• Moments of silence — for collective mourning and remembrance
