Sencholai Remembrance Day in Germany

Sencholai Remembrance Day is observed each year by Eelam Tamils around the world, particularly on and around August 14th, in memory of the 2006 Sencholai massacre in Mullaitivu, Tamileelam.

This year in Germany, the event is being organised by the Tamil Youth Organisation Germany (TYO) across eight cities: Munich (14/08), Stuttgart (14/08), Freiburg (24/08), Düsseldorf (19/08), Dortmund (16/08), Warendorf (16/08), Berlin (14/08), and Bremen (14/08).

On August 14th, commemorations took place in four cities — Stuttgart, Munich, Bremen, and Berlin. Additional events will be held in the remaining cities in the coming days.

During these gatherings, TYO members informed the public about the massacre and distributed flyers, alongside floral offerings to honour the 53 schoolgirls and three teachers who were killed.

The commemorations featured cultural tributes, moments of silence for collective mourning, and other acts of remembrance.
